Keir Roopnarine
Consultant, Writer, and Facilitator in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago
Keir Roopnarine is a teacher, tutor, and lifelong advocate for women’s and children’s rights. Keir has worked with organisations such as the UNFPA, and the Hindu Women’s Organisation, where she currently holds the post of Secretary. She actively supports education for sexual and reproductive health and rights, and is also heavily involved in work against gender-based and domestic violence. She believes that comprehensive sex education and open communication can help alleviate the power struggles that lead to GBV and DV.
Keir has been teaching both in and out of the classroom for over six years. Her involvement in advocacy and focus on youth issues led her to the TED team at UWI, where she hosted TEDxUWI in 2012, and was inspired to organize TEDxYouth@QueensParkSavannah. Keir has since been involved in the organisation and execution of several events, conventions and workshops. She continues to facilitate and design educational workshops, programmes and faires, and provides consultation to community groups and organisations who seek to do the same.
Keir has a BSc. in Molecular Biology, and holds an MSEd. with speciality in Learning Sciences and Technologies.
