This special education course has reminded me of the value of getting to know my students on an individual basis. Understanding each student’s unique strengths and needs can allow me to create a program that is truly authentic and meaningful for them. Differentiating instruction to accommodate and modify when appropriate can assist in meeting this goal. Through the scholarly articles, websites, and videos, I have gained new learning on topics including Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. Being able to recognize these characteristics and apply the teaching strategies suggested throughout the course will assist me as I approach new situations. I look forward to sharing my learning with my colleagues in rich conversations and collaborating in professional learning settings to meet the diverse needs of my students.
