When not behind the desk, I immerse myself in the wonders of nature and historical reenactments, capturing stories of people, places, and events through my unique painterly fine art photography.
I graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Art with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Medical Illustration. Photography became my passion when my father gifted me my first Canon camera. Throughout my education, I balanced both photography and medical illustration, where I learned to distill complex information into compelling stories. This skill is foundational to both fields—illustration and photography complement each other beautifully. Photography sharpens my ability to study light, color, and texture, while medical illustration hones my storytelling and presentation techniques.
At my core, I am a storyteller, presenting information in a controlled and creative way—my vision, my interpretation. Whether creating intricate, photo-realistic medical illustrations or capturing moments through photography, "the story" always takes center stage. My work varies in style and technique, with color, texture, and lighting playing an integral role in setting the scene. My painterly photography takes on an illustrious feel, blending my backgrounds in both illustration and photography for a distinctive perspective.
Like the great masters of photography who used enlargers, chemicals, and filters, today's art of photography involves digital tools, creativity, and techniques to craft unique, captivating images. Good photography goes beyond the raw image; it engages the viewer, evoking emotion and drama, telling the artist’s story through their vision. The final result—whether on print, mounted, or framed—reflects the artist's expression, not just a snapshot in time.
As a landscape and portrait photographer, I use various cameras for different projects. For detailed landscape work, I shoot with the Fujifilm GFX 100s, a 100MP medium-format system that delivers exceptional detail, color, and dynamic range. For reenactments and shooting in challenging environments, I rely on the OM Systems OM1 Mark 2.
