Fashion found me, I did not find fashion. Deciding to pursue a career within the fashion industry was the end of a very long road that began in pursuit of a medical degree and brought me to where I am today: A junior Fashion Merchandising student at the University of Delaware. Taking what I thought would just be a simple summer job to have some spending money quickly captivated me and brought interest into a field of work I had never considered. I was enchanted by the way clothing made people feel and how the interactions of colors and patterns could evoke their own emotions and transform a person. It was through this that I also began to understand what my own style was saying about me. This realization led me to the creation of my own fashionable look: a compilation of neutral tones mixed with vibrant hues and presented in silhouettes with clean lines and conservative cuts. With the understanding of my own style I have been able to express my main personality traits in a new way and create a look that I can trust to be nothing but my own. It is my hope that by pursuing a career in fashion I can take what I have learned through experimentation and project it into ways that bring even the most avant-garde of fashion trends into the reach of consumers. I have begun working to achieve this goal through taking a very hands-on sales associate position at a local retailer. Here I have had access to generating data on different merchandise and understanding reactions on consumers to particular data. This has enabled me to gain a better understanding of the inter-workings of consumers' thoughts and also furthered my knowledge of more of the "behind the scenes" parts of retailing. It is with these experiences that I will continue to learn and in the end work have visions as working as a merchandise buyer or planner for a large-scale retailer.
