Not Just Another Pair of Khakis

“Hello, whats your name?”

“Kacky”

“Kacky??”

“Yes, like the pants.”

This is a quirky conversation I have to use all the time. For some reason, Kacky is a hard name for people to understand. This is an expression I use with peers, elders, in a fast food line and so much in between. My name has molded in a way and led to my outgoing character despite the blandness of an actual pair of khaki pants. Even though I refer to my name as like the pants, I am quite the opposite of boring. I love being outside, listening to the Allman Brothers Band, and eating a good Chick-fil-A sandwich. The University of Georgia has played a huge part in my life as both of my parents and my older sister are graduates. I grew up only 95 miles away in Augusta, GA. Growing up, we would up come up to Athens to enjoy football games. This is definitely where my love for this university came from and I am more than proud to be a part of it now.

To describe my personality, I would say I am blunt, outgoing, and independent. These traits have all helped me succeed in college so far. I attribute this to my family who I am similar to, yet so different. My mom has always told me being completely honest is better in the long run, especially in friendships. She is who I can thank for my ability to be blunt and honest with someone. A few of my friends have even said my bluntness is one of my best qualities, since it is not always easy telling people the truth.

All three of my family members are outgoing and can get along almost anywhere and they have always encouraged me to do the same. UGA has plenty of opportunities to meet new people. This year I was a part of the Hoop Girls and that helped out at the basketball games. It was a great opportunity to get involved with athletics while meeting a variety of people too. When it comes to being independent, I love getting out and doing something completely on my own. This is why I find so much pleasure in running.

Overall, I find myself to be different than a boring pair of khakis. Growing up around great people is definitely what shaped me to be who I am. The city of Athens is what I call home for the next few years and, like myself, I find it to be so much more than the Classic City.
