Peruvianguitarist Kathy Acosta Zavala andnative of Tucson, Arizona Christine Yimade their debut as a duo this past March at the 2015 NASA, North American SaxophoneAlliance, Region II conference. The Acosta-Yi duet started collaborating in2013, ever since then both members have grown tremendously, both, as soloistand as a duo. In2014, Yi won the University of Arizona’s 42nd Annual President’sConcerto Competition and that same year Ms. Acosta Zavala became the firstfemale guitarist to ever win the Leonard and David Schaeffer Memorial GuitarCompetition. Currently, both members of the duo are pursuing their performancedegrees at the University of Arizona. Acosta is working on her master’s degreeand is Yi is working on her undergraduate degree. Next year, the duo is lookingforward to premiering and recording their own transcription of Bach’s thirdViolin and Harpsichord Sonata, BWV 1016.
