Keith Addison
Newcastle upon Tyne
Keith lives in Newcastle upon Tyne with his wife, his daughters and a husky called Mieko.
Even at a young age he had a very active imagination and wrote fantastical stories about far-away lands and exotic creatures. He always felt more comfortable using the written word to communicate, whether that was a sloppy love letter to a teenage crush, or a story to thrill his friends while camping in the back garden.
When Keith reached an age to go to college he explored other avenues of writing in the form of songs. This allowed him to combine his love of music, writing and performing all at once. He played in a number of different bands over the years and ventured all over the country playing in all kinds of venues.
Unfortunately things took a turn for the worst when his youngest daughter was born with a rare, undiagnosable genetic disorder. This meant that the whole family had to adapt to a new way of living in order to take care of her. This has been the task that has kept Keith and his wife occupied for the past 10 years now, however, things were about to get worse when Keith’s personal health suffered a number of setbacks as well.
Keith has battled with Binge Eating Disorder for over 20 years of his life and is in the process of writing a book about his experiences of living with an eating disorder. Keith also suffered a relapse of chronic back pain which had plagued him since a child and now severely affected his mobility.
In order to deal with the problems in his life, Keith started to write a blog entitled ‘Sleepless in Newcastle.’ He never thought that anyone would be interested in reading it , but to his surprise he started to get regular readers and lots of positive feedback about his writing. This spurred him on to sign up to study creative writing at the Open University.
From here his confidence began to grow and he decided to become more focused on his writing. Keith has now closed down ‘Sleepless in Newcastle’ in order to set up two new blogs, one focusing on his creative writing called "Geordie Banter" and another focusing on his experiences battling his eating disorder called Battle the Binge
