Kailyn Rae

By age 6, artist Kailyn Rae had developed a love for music and composing. Thanks to her musical family — among many other talents—Kailyn Rae matured into an aspiring female artist. Kailyn’s childhood was spent in Bellwood, Illinois with her mother, Mildred Harris, and many siblings. Two of her big brothers have entered the music production business. At 14, Kailyn picked up an acoustic guitar, and recorded the first song she composed, “Unthoughtful Words.” In 2010, her brother Ethan helped her produce this. Though the single was never published and distributed, this began her journey of production, sound engineering, and composing. After watching Tangled, she immediately realized that she wanted to be a film musical composer. She started at Joliet Junior College (JJC) in 2011, and became a declared music major in the fall of 2012. Kailyn switch her focus from guitar to piano, and took applied lessons with Dr. Daniela Broderick. She also started working on her Certification for Music Technology at JJC which cultivated her professional career and relationships in music.

Collaboration thickened as she was taking music theory classes and doing Music production honor projects. This project led her to professionally recording Rainfall in the JJC’s music studio. Kailyn wrote many sequential melodies, often composing in the mist of her emotional highs and lows, then would later receive artistic input from her professors, mother, siblings, and fellow peers. As her work gained popularity by word-of-mouth, her live performances began to be in demand by administration at her college. She was employed as a student performer playing at some very high profile events, such as The Foundation Donor Dinners and Presidential Tea Parties; with such an appealing tidbit on her résumé she continues to seek ways to expose herself.

In 2013, Kailyn started working on an independent album. It has a mixer of Christian pop, and bit of a 50’s sound suitable for both the radio and online streaming. "Take Control" is the most popular song on the album. She has sung this song around the country in different religious facilities. Kailyn has grown an audience, that is continuously expanding, that enjoys her music. This is just the beginning of Kailyn’s plans. She has hopes to release a few more songs in the summer of 2016.
