Hello! My name is Kaimya Jones and in my free time I like to volunteer at PAWS Atlanta. PAWS Atlanta is a no-kill animal shelter and pet rescue located in Atlanta. I have been volunteering at PAWS for a year now. I started volunteering at PAWS because I needed animal experience for my pre-vet major, even so I have enjoyed my experience there. At first, I thought it would be stressful because I would be responsible for taking care of a variety of animals with varying personalities and conditions to watch out for, but when I started it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be.
Because PAWS houses cats and dogs of all sizes, I have been able to gain experience and knowledge in the different ways of taking care of both species. I tend to alternate between taking care of cats and dogs to get the most out of my experience. When I volunteer, I mainly help with socializing the cats to get them comfortable with being around people and other cats. This really means that I get to clock in and play with cats for hours on end. I also socialize with the dogs by taking them out to play and for walks. Volunteering at PAWS has been such a great experience for me. I recommend volunteering here if you want to relieve stress, get away from your responsibilities for a little while or if you just want to play with cats and dogs.
