Kaitlin Obermeyer

Hello! My name is Kaitlin. I am a senior at the University of Kansas graduating with a BSJ in Strategic Communication and a BFA in Photography. I am originally from St. Louis, Missouri, but more recently I am a new inhabitant to Naperville, Illinois. I have spent a great deal of time traveling and learning new things about different people and places.

My photographic work is an investigation into the lives of elderly women who live alone. Cultural traditions and different ways of life are often revealed in the objects represented in homes. They can disclose information about a person’s soul. I am interested in learning about the remarkable experiences people have through the process of making photographs.

My love of people and the human mind has come from my love of travel. Meeting different types of people has opened my mind to the extraordinary things that people do and the different places people come from. Communication is one of my stronger talents because of this.

I am currently working at the University Career Center as a marketing intern specializing in photography. I co-manage the Instagram account @humans_of_ku. It is just like Humans of New York and works to create common bonds among the various different types of people who are involved in KU. In my free time I enjoy hanging out with kids, teaching waterski, drinking coffee, and exploring everything that I haven’t yet. I also volunteer at the Kansas City Pet Project taking dogs out of the shelter to get them exposure and work to get them adopted through co-managing @kcpp_doggie_dates.
