My name is Katy Pitcairn and my husband Bryan and I ownCrossfit Huntingdon Valley in (you guessed it) Huntingdon Valley, PA. We are also the proud parents of our 3-year-olddaughter Maddy and our 7-month-old son Max. Although we are firmly entrenched in the fitness industry at this pointin our lives, physical fitness is not the original reason I began mypaleo-inspired food blog My Whole Food Foodie.

My story starts when Maddy was two weeks old and throughmany sleepless nights, doctors visits, and research we discovered she had a verybad case of acid reflux. Out ofcomplete desperation due to low supply issues while struggling to breastfeed, Icame across numerous books, ideas, and unconventional concepts that I wassimply willing to try. My thoughts wouldalways inevitably turn to the question, “will this actually work for mychild(ren)?” It was through this mode ofthinking that led me to books like BabyLed Weaning, Super nutrition forBabies, and Primal Moms Look Good Naked. After only a few months of incorporating mostly paleo recipes intomy own diet, my daughters reflux began to dramatically improve by the time shewas ready to start solid foods herself. While I am not the type of person to post innocuous things to facebookevery day, I was very proud that my daughter actually enjoyed eating herwholesome super nutritious foods from the beginning! Through following some of the beliefs statedin Super Nutrition for Babies, I wasable to help her through a vital time in her development. It became so clear to me these so-called“unconventional methods” should be “the method” for feeding our children!

Since then I have been able to apply what I learned to myson Max and have always felt the need to share my knowledge with other momsgoing through similar situations. Ialways found it interesting that some moms struggle to give their toddlers theconventional plated vegetables, yet back when their son/daughter was an infantcelebrating a birthday willingly gave them a flour cake when he/she didn’t knowthe difference yet! What I realized was thata lack of a nutritious diet was not merely for lack of trying, but rather alack of knowledge and preparation. Forexample, in Super Nutrition for BabiesImade my daughter the carob cake called “Birthday Bash without the Crash” andeverybody at the party loved it! It’s never too late to reintroduce andrediscover wholesome foods for you and your family. It’s has been a journeyover the last three years with its ups and downs. I realize now that all of my hard work hasled me to believe that I have something that I want to share so that otherswill not have to go through what I went through myself.

Through this blog I hope to educate parents and in turnfoster a community where reasonable and effective ideas can be implemented andshared. I hope to provide not justrecipes but also pictures and videos in order to best demonstrate how it can bedone. Providing your child nutritiousfood from the start provides them with good gut health, which is ultimately thecornerstone to good overall health.
