Kaleigh Greene

Currently, I am enjoying my time as a junior in the sports management department at the University of Massachusetts Amherst until I graduate this December, 2014.

It may not come as a surprise when I say that I am truly passionate about sports, specifically volleyball and softball. Sports are not only enjoyable to play and watch, but they have taught me some essential qualities. Some of those qualities include the importance of teamwork, putting in hard work to receive results and time management. Most of all, playing sports has helped me focus and has motivated me to become the best version of myself.

Another thing I am interested in is the media. There are so many different aspects that make up the media. Last year, I began an internship with the Media Relations department, here with Umass Athletics. It has been one of the best, more rewarding experiences in my professional life. The job includes working at the office, updating the Umass Athletics website, and my favorite part, game days. Sitting up at the press box in Gillette at the UMass football game, or sitting courtside at UMass basketball, catering to the media, it felt like I was doing exactly what I have always wanted to do.

Another great job I have enjoyed was being a volleyball coach at Amherst Middle School. I have worked often in the past with children related jobs, such as a preschool and family center, and I have always found it rewarding. Working with children has taught me skills that I have found useful in my life, a huge one being patience. Living in the fast pace world that we live in today, patience is a hard quality to have. Most Americans want everything their way, and quickly. Children are not exactly aware of adults having this quality, so working with younger kids really tests one's ability to be patient. I also had the opportunity to sell the sport of volleyball and pass on my passion for the sport to other kids.

All in all, I have found my past and present experiences in the job aspect of my life have been very rewarding. These various jobs and internships have helped my improve my patience, time management, and find my passion in life. I plan to continue expanding my professional experiences and enjoy the last semester of my time here at Umass Amherst.
