Kalpitiya Broke House

Kalpitiya is situated in the North West of Sri Lanka, on a peninsula and surrounded by the Indian Ocean and the Puttalam Lagoon.This area has not yet been discovered by tourism.In Kalpitiya you will see Sri Lanka 100 years ago. Most of the people are living in Cadjan huts.A visit to Kalpitiya is very attractive for to see her beautiful virgin beaches on the islands and the colorful lagoon with her tiny islands.After a long car or bus drive and after a very bad road to reach Kalpitiya, it is amazing to go for a boat trip to the ocean or to the lagoon.A special experience is to go by boat through the mangrove woods to Dutch bay and to the little village of Kirimundel or to go Muhathuwarum to visit the old Portugese church and so called the Roman Catholic Wood Church.‘Beauty’s’ of villages are Utchemune and Battalamgundu with their friendly community and the cadjan houses.Above Kalpitiya there are several islands and three are habited. To visit these islands and their magnificent beaches it makes a 3 days trip necessary and to stay in a cadjan hut by a family for 2 nights.Between Kirimundel and Utchemune is a passing through to the Indian Ocean and it makes it possible to visit the Bareer Riff and to watch the dolphins. This Bareer Riff is one of the most beautiful riffs in the world and well protected by nature watchers and the Navy. When you are lucky you will see thousands of dolphins early in the morning.
