Kalyan Tresha Ky
Melbourne-based multilingual author, musician, academic, human rights & multicultural advocate. She was born at Khao-I-Dang camp in 1986, a UNHCR refugee holding center in Ban Aranyhrapratet. She is of Cambodian descent, and is a classically-trained violinist.. Her work includes experimental exploration fiction & poetry (quasi-fantasy thrillers, suburban fairytales), music composition, graphic design & experimental film making. The focus of her work in on domestic settings, political fairytales, silent issues and the plight of refugees. She has done various art projects in the community. She regularly works with young disadvantaged youth in her community, victims of sexual abuse, refugees and multicultural multifaith advocacy groups. Through her life, she has witnessed horrible occurrences and violations of basic rights in refugee detention centers and suburbia. These issues have infected and inspired her work. She has served on numerous advisory boards including the Victorian Government’s Multifaith multicultural youth network.
