Kalyn Essex

Hi, I'm Kalyn. You know, the crazy vegan that grew up in the circus. Yes, it's true! But once I graduated high school I left my tiny circus hometown to attend Herron School of Art for a couple of years. I worked at Trader Joe's part time, which is where I found my husband (I highly recommend for grocery shopping too!) before joining the Air Force and jetting off to Germany. I'm extremely grateful for my global experience, as it led to my love of travel and cultural awareness. We were able to visit 13 different countries in 3.5 years before coming back to the U.S. The military has also provided opportunities for me to highly develop my communication, followership, teamwork, leadership skills.

I'm currently finishing up my last few classes at Old Dominion University for my Bachelor of Science in Health Science Administration. Upon graduating this summer I plan to separate from the military and attend graduate school so I can focus on a career that utilizes my passions: transformational leadership, influencing change, and animal welfare awareness.
