kimberly ammiano

Kimberly Ammiano is a senior at Drew University in Madison, NJ, where she is pursuing a degree in English, with minors in Writing, Sociology, and Women's Studies. She is an aspiring broadcast journalist who is currently working on achieving that goal by interning with the Fox Business Network. She has been the Lead Reporter for her campus' publication, The Acorn, since her freshman year. Thus far in her Acorn career, Kimberly has covered events such as the lectures of Anderson Cooper, Gerri Adams, Tony Blair, Kofi Annan, Robin Wright, and Robert Gates. Additionally, Kimberly has covered several beats on student concerns and request for the campus cafeteria to reform.

In addition to The Acorn, Kimberly also writes for The Gateway Messenger, a monthly campus newsletter that is sent to Drew parents, students, and alumni. For the GM, Kimberly writes articles that help keep alumni current on Drew happenings. She also has become a contributing writer for a community lifestyle magazine, called hMAG, that began as a summer internship. After a summer of covering Hoboken events, interesting people, and good food, Kimberly has continued to write for the magazine's "hFIT," section (a section dedicated to profiling the city's most interesting personal trainers) and "Faces," where she tells the story of the Hoboken average Joe through a Q&A format. Her previous journalism experience also includes The Daily Record Newspaper based in Parsippany, NJ, and Lucky Magazine, a Conde-Nast Publication.

Kimberly discovered her love for journalism when she realized it was a profession that could and would provide a healthy combination of the two things she loves the most, on a daily basis: talking to people and writing. Based on a similar notion, Kimberly was a Drew Writing Center Peer Tutor for three years. She is pretty heartbroken to have to take this semester off due to time constraints from Fox. While tutoring writing could not fit into this year's schedule, Kimberly still takes an hour a week to meet with her beloved "conversation partner," JinJoo.

"Conversation Partners," is a Drew run program that helps connect English as a second language students with native speakers. After meeting JinJoo her freshman year, Kimberly has continued working with him and growing fond of watching him progress.
