After obtaining an associate of arts from Muscatine Community College in Iowa, Kandy Steel competed her undergraduate education with a bachelor of arts in K-12 physical education from the University of Missouri in St. Louis. Kandy Steel went on to earn a master of arts in educational administration with an emphasis in K-12 principalship through the University of Phoenix in Denver, Colorado, and a doctor of education with an emphasis in educational leadership through Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

Over the course of her career, Kandy Steel has served tenures as a principal or assistant principle with multiple Colorado schools and as a deputy superintendent with Adams County District 14 in Commerce City, Colorado. She also has worked as an independent educational consultant for nearly two decades.

Since July 2016, Dr. Steel has promoted parity and academic achievement for students at the University of Northern Colorado Center for Urban Education. Stressing diversity in the teaching profession, she helps the center enroll and counsel education undergraduates in a range of specialized disciplines.
