I’m Michael Kanehl. Twenty-five years in the automotive business — sales, finance, general sales manager — and I still believe the most important thing that happens on a car lot has nothing to do with the car.

It’s whether you trust the person standing in front of you.

I grew up in East Germany during the Cold War. I remember standing close enough to the wall to see the lights of West Berlin. In the mid-1970s my family tried to escape. What followed was imprisonment. Eventually they released us to West Germany, and years later I made my way to America.

I moved to Vero Beach in 1993 and never left.

I’ve spent my career watching people make one of the biggest financial decisions of their lives, often with someone they met an hour ago. I know what it feels like to be in a system that doesn’t have your interests at heart. I decided a long time ago that wasn’t going to be me.
