Kaoru Okumura [奥村 薫]

A fan of Butoh since 1977, Kaoru studied Butoh in 1993 at Asbestos-Kan in Tokyo with Akiko Motofuji, Hijikata's wife, and had her first performance there.
She has enjoyed performing butoh in the Seattle area from 2008 with Danse Perdue, where she experiences how a body bridges the soul and the world. Kaoru is actively performing in Seattle area, including organizing events at the Taoist Studies Institute and has premiered new solo pieces bi-monthly there in 2012.
Her unique background balances science and arts. She has an MS degree in mathematical logics, and a career as researcher and program manager in computer companies with a specialty in natural languages analysis. She also enjoys contributing to the Butoh community as a photographer, and video artist.
