Welcome and thank you for taking the time to stop by! My name is Karen A. Duncan. Education and I? What do I really know about it? Well firstly I have been fortunate enough to have been educated both in the Caribbean and in the United States which has allowed me to have a diversified opinion, appreciation and perspective for the education system.
As an educator with over 29 years of experience, I have taught at the preschool, elementary, middle school, and university level. Therefore, I have seen and learned a lot about the education industry over the years. Making reference to the phrase "Knowledge is Power", I made a conscientious decision to use my knowledge and experience to help others. I bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to share with K-12 teachers, pre-service teachers and college/university professors. During my tenure as a university professor, I have received numerous awards including Teacher of the Semester four semesters in a row.
Over the years, I have been a teacher and a mentor. I have helped some to recognize that teaching is indeed their calling as well as guided others to see that they need to seek another profession other than teaching. Pre-service teachers have grown from my guidance and knowledge of how they should teach ELLs in today’s classrooms as well as implementing the P's: present, punctual, professional, prepared, pleasant and participatory.
Learning is an integral part of my consultancy, so I strive to keep my professional knowledge up-to-date by attending conferences and keeping up on changes within the industry. Primarily, I am focused on building long-term, trusted relationships with individuals, schools and organizations worldwide. I am very passionate about education as a whole- constantly reflecting on what I can do to become better. I am fully dedicated to being a change agent to help improve the problems and pitfalls currently plaguing the education industry.
