The author o 17 books, Karen Berger writes about travel, the environment, the outdoors, hiking, backpacking, skiing, scuba diving, health, and music. Her most recent book, Great Hiking Trails of the World, was published by Rizzoli International. Previously, her book, America's Great Hiking Trails (Rizzoli, 2014), with photographs by Bart Smith and an introduction by Bill McKibben, made the New York Times best sellers list (#10 in travel books) in January, 2015 and won the Lowell Thomas award for best travel book. Karen is also the editor of the award-winning travel website, Buckettripper.com.
Her work has appeared in the New York Times, National Geographic Traveler, Forbestravel.com, Islands, Backpacker, Family Circle, Westways, Robb Report, and many other national and international outlets. She is considered an expert in the areas of backpacking and adventure travel, and is also an active performing and teaching pianist.
