Karen B. Shackelford, MD
Pursuing a broad array of academic, professional, and charitable endeavors, Karen B. Shackelford, MD, has possessed a dedication to assisting others as both a volunteer and physician. After graduating from The International School of Brussels a.s.b.l., a noted institution that unites high school-aged learners from more than 60 countries, Karen B. Shackelford, MD, pursued her education at Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi, acquiring a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Karen B. Shackelford, MD, then began preparing for the next phase of her education, ultimately attaining the second-highest statewide results on the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT). During her tenure as a medical student at The University of Mississippi Medical Center, Karen B. Shackelford, MD, earned a four-year scholarship and received the Fourth Year Emergency Medical Student Award.
Following the receipt of her medical degree, Karen B. Shackelford, MD, acted as an Emergency Physician at a number of area facilities in the Jackson area, including River Oaks Hospital and Central Mississippi Medical Center. Today, Karen B. Shackelford, MD, contributes her insight as a member of groups such as the American Medical Association, the American College of Emergency Physicians, the Mississippi State Medical Association, and the Central Mississippi Medical Society.
With a dedication to helping the people of Jackson in many areas, Karen B. Shackelford, MD, serves on the Grants Committee of the Catholic Diocese of Jackson and conducts fund-raising efforts for the organization’s schools and parishes. Additionally, Karen B. Shackelford, MD, founded the Lay Pastoral Care Committee of St. Richard Catholic Church and served as a longtime volunteer with the Junior League of Jackson, a women’s group that organizes a variety of charitable events. In addition to her charitable pursuits, Karen B. Shackelford, MD, relaxes by cooking and painting.
