Karen Pezzetti

Karen Pezzetti grew up in Orange, California. She majored in Linguistics at UC Berkeley as undergraduate, taught for a year in an after-school program, and then returned to UC Berkeley for her Masters and Teaching Credentials in English, History, and PE in 2004. Karen taught for two years at Foothill Community Foothill Community College and for six years in the Oakland Unified School District where she was honored as co-Teacher of the Year in 2008. Additionally, Karen trained with Leah Gillman of Barefoot Movement and became a certified yoga teacher through Yoga Alliance in 2009. Since 2010 she has been a fellow with America Achieves .

Currently, Karen is a doctoral student in Urban Education at Temple University. She is trying to focus her broad interests in social justice, urban school reform, teacher quality, teacher voice in public policy, mindfulness and meditation in urban schools, and classroom discourse analysis.
