Karen K. Solis

I grew up in rural North Carolina on 12 acres. When I was about 8 years old, my parents bought me an old classroom chalkboard. I remember "teaching" my little sister every afternoon. Years later, my dream would be realized as I headed to the School of Education at UNC-Chapel Hill. So, here I am today - a teacher - able to pursue my passion, daily!

I teach English as a Second Language to elementary students whose global perspectives enrich my classroom and my life. In the Gaston County Schools Pinnacle Leaders' Network, I am not only able to impact learning in my classroom, but am also able to share the latest in technology and best practices for the classroom with my colleagues. As a member of the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction English Language Learner Support Team, I am able to impact student learning by providing language support and training to districts and teachers across the state.

My daily purpose is to make a difference wherever I can, whenever I can. In my spare time(?!), I enjoy time with family and friends, traveling, reading and playing the flute.
