Karen Van Beyer

Karen van Beyer, Ph.D., LCSW, serves as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at the Tulane University School of Medicine, where she is an instructor in child custody evaluation, as well as child and family therapy. Karen van Beyer has held this post for over a decade, and since 2006, she has worked in private practice at the Child and Family Therapy Center, LLC, in Metairie, Louisiana. In addition, she conducts evaluations in child custody cases for the civil court systems in several Louisiana parishes, including Orleans and Jefferson.

Dr. van Beyer served as the Director of the Child Custody and Mediation Clinic, first at LSUHSC and at Tulane. From 2002 to 2004, Dr. van Beyer was a Mental Health Training Consultant at LSU's School of Public Health, where she taught cognitive behavioral therapy for the school's juvenile corrections program. Between 1991 and 2000, she led courses in group therapy, custody evaluation, and family therapy in the Department of Psychiatry at LSUHSC.

On a number of occasions, Dr. Karen van Beyer has shared her experience and expertise with colleagues by participating in workshops and making presentations. The lectures and events have focused on the effects of divorce on children, family systems, conflict resolution, family therapy, conduct disorder, custody disputes and evaluations, and forensic social work.
