Kari O'Connor
Las Vegas, Nevada
A born and bred Las Vegan, I've been serious about writing since I was 14, but officially launched my writing career when I was 22 as a freelance journalist covering local bands for an alternative weekly. I officially started my career in content and social media marketing in 2005 in the sports information field, and since then have expanded into copywriting, search engine optimization content, and other content marketing. Outside of work I've written a short film for the 48-Hour Movie Project, had a flash fiction piece published in a charity anthology, and have performed poetry for hundreds of people.
I have been a member of the Las Vegas poetry scene for almost 20 years as a host, organizer, and performance poet. I've also been an organizer of Las Vegas Slam (now Battle Born Slam) since 2004, have represented Las Vegas on 5 slam teams at National Poetry Slam, and was the 2013 Grand Slam Champion of the Battle Born Slam. I've performed all over the West Coast of the U.S. as well as in Canada and England. I have also featured my poetry on local radio stations KUNV and KNPR, and have self-published 4 chapbooks of poetry. And I write fiction as well, being an alum of the 2007 Clarion Science Fiction & Fantasy workshop in San Diego.
In other words, if there's something to write, I've probably tried to write it!
