Karl Loushin

I'm a forth generation resident of the Roaring Fork Valley in beautiful and majestic Colorado. My Family history began with my great grandmother; a mail order bride from Austria who came here in the late 1880's. She met and married my great grandfather in Aspen, Colorado and had 11 children which only four survived; one was my grandmother on my Dad's side.

Dad's Father came from Austria/Yugoslavia and married my grandmother who had four children also. My Mother's side came from Sweden and Norway. My Maternal grandparents came from towns just roughly 20 miles apart. Grandpa Anderson was from Norway, and Grandma Anderson from Sweden. They came to a tiny mining town in the heart of the Rockies to meet and raise a family. They came will little, my grandmother's papers from Elise Island stated that she came with $10.00's in her pocket. They were living proof of the American dream.

Both my Grandfathers were miners and worked long, difficult hours to make their living far underground. They are part of the History of Aspen; They were of the families that lived in Aspen during the "Quiet Years" which growing up were, in my eyes the best years of Aspen. With Neighbor helping neighbor.

My Mom and Dad knew one another growing up and married after both returned to Aspen after WWII. Dad was one of two pharmacists in town and my Mother was Head Nurse at the Hospital. You can imagine how difficult it was for my brother & I to fake being sick so that we could miss a day of school. :) My Brother and I were both born in the 1950's and saw our town morph from a quiet town to a world class ski resort. We were treated to cultures around the world, music, art, literature, celebrities, sports stars, the rich, the famous, and the majesty of the Rocky Mtns. We could enjoy wildlife, fishing, hiking, photography; within walking distance of your front door. My brother went to work with the Skiing Co. and I went into Hardware and the Movie Theater Operations. Hardware gave me knowledge in a wide range of "related Fields" and the Movies gave me the best of life and adventure on celluloide. Over 32 years of the theater business I would say I have seen 10,000 films or more. The magic is still there with each new release I see. Thank you for stopping by, I hope you have gained a little bit of who I am. I am more than a name on your screen I am a person exactly like you with my own experiences and adventures, a family man, proud father & friend.
