Karl Hopwood

Karl Hopwood is an independent esafety expert. He is a member of UKCCIS (UK Council for Child Internet Safety) and sits on the advisory board for the UK Safer Internet Centre and the education advisory board for CEOP. Karl has worked for a number of key players in online safety including CEOP, BECTA, the European Commission and several local authorities within the UK. He has recently worked with teachers in Malta, Croatia and Switzerland as well as extensively with pupils, parents and teachers in schools all over the UK. Karl has been employed for the last 7 years as an in-house esafety consultant for Insafe which is the coordinating node of the EU Safer Internet Programme where he is responsible for the coordination of the network of helplines across the EU. He also works with the Boarding Schools' Association (BSA), IAPS (Independent Association of Prep Schools) and GSA (Girls' Schools Association) to promote esafety in their schools. Karl is a trustee of Childnet International and a founding trustee of the Marie Collins Foundation.
