Karol Lopez
Karol Lopez is a third year journalism student at Wilfrid Laurier University. She is currently working towards a post-grad degree in videography broadcast journalism/ documentary at Conestoga College. At first, she wanted to become a print journalism, but after some soul searching, she felt she had the potential to become a broadcast journalist.
Karol hopes to one day become a news anchor, and after she gains some experience, she would like to one day lead a big team of broadcast professionals as a senior producer. She knows that in order to become a senior producer she needs a lot of experience, great communication and leadership skills, have strong decision making skills and a strong news judgment.
Both in University and College, she has had opportunity to obtain great technological skills that can be used in many different professions. To Karol, it is important to be a reliable person, and this is a skill she has acquired through different jobs, and a skill she want to keep on improving. She is a hard workingwoman, who meets deadlines. Karol was born in Colombia, South America, which means that is fluent in spoken and written Spanish. The fact that Karol is bilingual, and is currently learning French can be an asset for many businesses.
To Karol, it is important to have great transferable skills such as people skills. As a journalist, having people skills is important because this job is all about people and their problems. Along with people skills, other transferable skills that Karol is working on improving are how to network, both on a personal level and on a mass media level. Karol tries to keep up with new technologies in order to improve her video production skills.
