Karren Whitney

Karren Whitney is an emerging leader and experienced communications professional with a diverse background in market research, project management, strategic communications, social media marketing, content creation, media relations and event planning. Her experience is enhanced by her Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, as well as an MBA from Texas Woman’s University.

Karren’s passion for Marketing and philanthropy was sparked by work performed with the United Way early in her career where she assisted them in special events, producing presentations and gathering informational research on their nonprofit partners.

Karren is currently serving her 2nd year on the Board of Directors for Denton County Friends of the Family, an organization “dedicated to providing compassionate, comprehensive services to those impacted by rape, sexual abuse, and domestic violence, while partnering with our community to promote safety, healing, and prevention.”

Karren just earned a Certificate in Board Leadership through United Way’s Project Blue Print, a program designed to train community volunteers to become qualified, quality board members of non-profit organizations. This program explored the subjects of Governance, Board and Agency Relations, Operations of the Board, Finance & Fundraising, and Marketing.

In addition to her 9 to 5 and passion for philanthropy, Karren is working on establishing her own PR and Event Planning company named Tailor-Made PR. Tailor Made PR specializes in taking small businesses, personalities and nonprofit organizations to the next level.

"What I find most exciting about working in communications is designing the most effective way to promote and communicate the value of a person, product, or service. Tailor-Made PR is committed to providing strategies specially tailored to your needs."

On downtime, Karren enjoys eating, exploring and frolicking all over the great city of Dallas and blogging about how great it is to live in the Big D.

I try to live by two of my favorite quotes "to whom much is given much is required" and "let the beauty of what you love be what you do." I've lived a very blessed life and I owe most of that to my mom. If I can give back and at the same time make her proud then I'll deem my life successful.
