Karthik is a cyber security and information security compliance and risk adviser with experience around IT & cyber security governance, policies, procedures and standards. From his prior work experience as Security and Risk Management Specialist at Deloitte, Entrust Datacard and Innovapost he gained sound knowledge of security controls namely ISO 270001, ITSG-33, NIST SP 800-53 & CSF, NERC CIP frameworks, GDPR and CCPA privacy regulations. He has performed multiple engagements around Threat Risk Assessments for a wide array of municipal, provincial and publicly listed corporations in Canada.
He has great interests in learning new and disruptive technologies, especially in the field of Quantum computing around post-quantum cryptography and Photonics. He is also an avid learner of AI and its evolving technologies around deep neural networks, GANs - LLM & LAMs and GenAI.
In his current roles as an IT Security Coordinator and IT Security Risk Management Specialist at CIHR (Canadian Institutes of Health Research), he performs SA&A (Security Assessment & Authorization) for a wide array of IT and web application projects. He has good knowledge in network security architecture, GRC, information security & data protection, risk management, governance and leadership skills.
As the IT Security Coordinator, he leads the IT & Cyber Security teams as well as security architecture at CIHR. He engages and consults with Information Security teams such as Security Infrastructure & Operations, Digital Forensics & Incidence Response, Security Operations, Threat Vulnerability & Patch Management, Software Development and Cloud Security departments to meet high industry security standards and regulations thereby achieving Cyber security maturity and improving the DevSecOps digital services triad.
While in school, he was the recipient of 2014 Dalhousie GOLD D impact award for showcasing excellence in volunteering, community service, student association management and support & fundraising activities with Canadian Cancer Society.
He is bilingual with native English language fluency and intermediate French fluency. He can speak in two regional languages - Tamil (mother tongue) and Hindi.
