I love my family. I've been back and forth from San Diego all my life, but I really hope I'll just be able to stay this time. I'm not going to pretend that I have a clue what life has in store for me next, but it's all in God's hands and I just pray that the road might be getting less rocky and that I can be a better person.
The number one cause I care about right now is finding the cure for type one diabetes. My son was diagnosed three years ago, when he was 13 years old, and as much as I've been through in my life, that was the scariest day. I've met so many amazing families through the JDRF that also live with this disease. The JDRF funds many promising studies that seek better treatments and cures for T1D, but the cure is what I want most. I keep hoping I might become a billionaire one day so that I can fund research myself. I would be fascinated to have any part in studying the immune system and figuring out how to cure all autoimmune diseases at once.
I could ramble all day about geeky things because I get excited about science, history, languages, pretty much everything. I love learning, and I love teaching. I'm somewhat limited because I was disabled through an accident 11 years ago, but I do all that I can and pray that I'll one day be able to pursue a PhD and make a difference in the world.
