Dr. Kasey Barr is the Democracy Fellow with the Program for Democratic Resilience and Development (PDRD) at Reichman University in Israel.Dr. Barr's research at PDRD, Democratic Resilience in the Age of Artificial Intelligence, is a multi-disciplinary exploration at the intersection of cutting-edge technology and foundational societal values. Her research is integrating concepts of behavioral economics and decision making with political philosophy and precepts of international law and governance to strengthen democratic systems and guard against technological determinism at the individual level and the rise of digital dictatorships at the societal level.
As big data and artificial intelligence proliferate, Dr. Barr’s research aims to address some of the intricate challenges to democracy and the Western liberal tradition that are emerging. The project focuses on three critical categories of concern in democratic societies: (1) ethical and philosophical considerations of AI, (2) regulation and governance of AI, and (3) AI’s influence on social and governing power dynamics within democracies.
