Kat Luna
Kat Luna
KAT LUNA is based in Sacramento, CA and works in mixed media in traditional, digital and unconventional mediums. Her work is inspired by the richness of colors and shapes found in nature, and by the depth and shadows found in those contexts. Her artistic process is also shaped by the deep meanings embedded in life stories, which she weaves creatively into the fibers of each art piece.
KAT's work actively engages in a process of overlaying volumes of color, space and texture onto the canvas. Torn, burned, scraped, fused with beeswax, layered with sand, adorned with textile, layered in paint. The process repeats itself and is then subtracted from the canvas to peek a glimpse of the layer beneath.
A graduate of California State University, Sacramento, KAT earned an M.A. in Studio Art in 2013. Kat's artistic talents have been shaped by mentors and faculty at CSUS, such as Sarah Flohr, Tom Monteith, and Andrew Connelly. While a student at CSUS, she was awarded the University Art Award at the 2010 Student Annual Art Awards Show.
When not crafting new art, Kat enjoys Second Saturday, hanging with family, hiking, cooking lumpia & experimenting with new recipes. She is an avid photographer, talented ceramicist, and frequent traveller.
Kat's work has been displayed in the Artistic Edge Framing & Gallery, Blue Moon Gallery, Center of Contemporary Art Sacramento, E Street Gallery & Studios, Else Gallery, University Library Gallery at Sacramento State, and Witt Gallery. Interested Curators may contact Kat using the link below.
