Kate is a sophomore English major student at Villanova University. With many passions in life, you can easily sum hers up in two things: English and elephants. Weird combination right? I know what you're thinking, this girl is probably a book-reading, animal-hugging, philanthropic nerd. And you're assumptions here are pretty much spot on. But before you read too much into that, here it out.
As an English major, it's essentially a requirement to love books and reading. But Kate doesn't just have an appreciation for the classics, like Shakespeare and The Great Gatsby. She loved Harry Potter so much that she read the entire seventh book in one sitting until she finished. And then got upset that she ended the series for herself so quickly. Not to mention, she's a hopeless, hopeless romantic. Throw a good love story at her and it might just change her life (or maybe not, you never know). The point is, if you hand Kate a decent book, you might as well say goodbye to her as she excuses herself from the rest of the world for a few days to join the places and characters in the pages.
But it doesn't end there. English majors usually write too, and naturally, Kate has always enjoyed this form of expression. In fact, Kate learned this about herself at quite an early age. Unlike the other kids in fifth grade who had play dates on the weekends, Kate and her best friend read a book they both fell in love with and thus decided to write their own spin off story of it. They spent hours a day for months, alternating turns to add to their one day hoped to be published novel, equipped with personal pen names and everything. (don't worry, they did other normal things too, like play barbies). Unfortunately, over a hundred pages and years later, that unfinished story is saved somewhere and lost in the cyber world, never to be found. A pipe dream at the time, but a fire had been sparked. Since then, Kate has written multiple unfinished story lines and plots on old computers, along with countless essays and pages of journals. But enough of that, if you'd like to know more about what she has written, feel free to look at her resume or visit her blog here.
So how do elephants fit into her English-loving life? Well, to put it simply, elephants are her favorite animal. I'll spare you the boring details as to why, but if you are curious and so inclined to know, email her and ask her about her knowledge in endangered species and envir
