Kate Charlton
Sydney, Australia
Lured by the eclectic environments of advertising agencies, I left Canada and a dull but sane career in the Transport & Tourism industry to pursue a Master degree in Communications in Australia.
After graduating, I spent five years working in advertising, digital and design agencies. My roles included Strategic Planning, Business Development, Account Direction and Business Director as I progressed up the food chain.
In 2009 I returned to academia and signed up to do a PhD in Marketing at the University of Sydney Business School. Over the past 3 years I've been investigating how players learn and experience brands while playing video games (which I also conveniently used to justify the many hours I spend playing video games myself).
In 2010, I developed a new Advertising courses at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), the success of the programme earning me the role of Course Coordinator and Head Lecturer for the advertising portion of the Master of Public Relations and Advertising programme at the UNSW.
In the final stages of my PhD which I expect to complete mid-2014 I'm biding my time as a contract lecturer. Finally able to see the light at the end of the tunnel, I've already got half an eye out for what will follow. Stay tuned!
