Concert pianist / Jazz pianist and vocalist..
Many households were headed by a single mother.
My favorite character in the movie is Leroy and I made a great real life friend similar to him. One’s background, color of skin etc., were irrelevant to all pupils – one’s talent was what counted.
As I was gregarious, polite and sure did have talent, I made very many friends, many of whom invited me home for lunch or dinner. I was made to feel so welcome especially in the poorest of homes.

Where am I now?
I’ve been told that I have now reached the very top of my profession – both as a concert pianist and a jazz pianist / vocalist – so I must have done something correctly.
I have just established my own Foundation to do so very many things.
Not least in helping talented music students in New York who do not gain a scholarship to Juilliard – I intend to establish more and more scholarships.
If they do not qualify for a scholarship but they have been offered a place at Juilliard – and if they meet my Foundation’s criteria, I will pay all their tuition fees plus a living allowance for living expenses per se – and to enable them to go out and enjoy themselves – which all students should be able to do.
