My writing style is a river. I like time to think about ideas and plan how I'm going to start, like a few drops of rain falling on a dry riverbed. But once I've started the ideas start to flood forward, like the rain building up until the river is raging. Sometimes my writing is smooth and clear like a peaceful river. Other times, if I'm unsure about the topic I'm writing about, my writing can feel choppy, like a river churning around rocks. My writing style will change like a river too. It can be formal and focused in a research paper, like when a river is flowing through a town with stones built up along its banks to hold it in its place. But it can be lighter and freer when I'm writing fiction, like a stream dancing around bends and over stones as it flows along. If I'm writing persuasively, the piece can have all the unpredictability of water. When I don't have an engaging topic to write about, it can be a bit dull, like a stream barely trickling along in a drought. But if I'm passionate about the topic, it can be a flood.
