Hire me

Nice to meet you, I'm Kate. 👩🏻‍🔬

I am seeking a new role as a Senior Research Associate in the San Francisco Bay Area. My professional interests include research, data science, and technical or medical writing.

I have a creative, solution-oriented mind and deep eagerness to learn. I value change, access to knowledge, and multi-disciplinary collaboration. I thrive in environments where I can focus on projects at depth and have opportunities to mentor others.

I have over 6 years of academic and industry research experience studying PNS development and injury, using a neurodevelopmental disease model for drug discovery, spatial sequencing, and development of novel NGS library preparation methods for the G4™ sequencing platform.

Furthermore, I have superb communication and presentation skills due to previous teaching experiences and a lifelong passion for creative writing.

I am also proficient in R and am learning Python.

I'm particularly proud of my work on Ring-Seq™ 🧬

"Next-generation sequencing (NGS) of B cell receptor rearrangements is a leading method for clonality assessment and measurable residual disease (MRD) monitoring of B cell malignancies" (Looney et al., 2022).

The Ring-Seq™ multiplex PCR assay detects gene fusions with unknown partners or breakpoints at low frequency, and could be a valuable tool for immune repertoire sequencing and MRD applications.

As a member of the sequencing applications team at Singular Genomics, I played a significant role in demonstrating feasibility of Ring-Seq™. The Ring-Seq™ team gave me opportunities to develop as a scientist and encouraged me to pursue ideas to improve and troubleshoot the assay. I tested materials and methods to increase experiment throughput, designed experiments, presented data at sequencing applications meetings, and wrote an internal user guide with troubleshooting recommendations.

I was promoted to Senior Research Associate in September 2023 for my work on Ring-Seq™ and other projects at Singular Genomics. Descriptions of my other professional experiences and skills are found on my LinkedIn page.

My hobbies are also important to me 🧶

When I'm not working…

– I'm an avid knitter and have a Ravelry page where I document my projects.
– I devour audiobooks.
– I enjoy tinkering with my espresso machine and DIY projects.
– I recently started learning Italian and doing crossword puzzles.

Thanks for stopping by. 🫀
