Katelyn Carbajal
Student in Orange, California
Hello!
My name is Katelyn. I'm a fan of food, travel, and education. I am currently a student at Chapman University in California, working on becoming an elementary school teacher. My ultimate goal is to get everyone to understand the true value of an education. It is easy to take for granted the opportunity that we have to go to school. Because my immigrant father did not have the privilege of receiving an official education, it is something that is personal to me. I have seen first hand the repercussions that come with the lack of an education. Therefore, although I acknowledge the challenges, I want to specifically work in underprivileged communities where I know I can make an impact.
Most of my experience working with students has been in a fourth grade classroom in Santa Ana. I mostly observe the teacher and pay attention to her teaching methods. Through doing this, I learn valuable information about how to run a classroom. I also learn what works and doesn't work so that I can shape my classroom and teaching accordingly. I have also helped with setting up the room before the start of a new year as well as helped the students with their classwork and other activities. So far, I enjoy working with fourth graders. Nonetheless, I cannot wait to explore other grade levels!
