Katelyn Brown

I am regularly asked, "why journalism?" and I always answer with the same response. Depending who you ask, I have always seemed to have journalist tendencies. My dad says after a Harlem Globetrotters game, my younger brother wanted the players signatures. I grabbed his hand, ran to the court, and pushed our way to the front. My dad says that is when he knew. As for my mom, she says when I was 11 or 12 at softball practice I had to know what these two guys were doing with yard tiki torches. I walked right up to the two guys and asked what they were doing. I do remember coming back to my teammates and reporting "They're having a high school graduation party. The guy is going to Marshall in the fall."

My name is Katelyn Brown, but please feel free to call me Katy. I am a senior at Kent State University majoring in both Broadcast News and Political Science/International Relations. During my college career, I studied two years of Arabic, traveled overseas twice (China and India) for international reporting, and participated in all media outlets, including radio, newspaper, and television.

As a journalist, I am devoted to every range of news. However, my heart is in reporting political, entertainment, and profile news. I especially like to bring reality to viewers. For example, while reporting internationally in Delhi, India, I produced a piece about hospital overcrowding and how patients were dealing with the situation at hand. Needless to say, the situation in Delhi was not a good one and served as a reality check for viewers and myself alike.
I have also been an CNN iReporter since 2008. I began contribution to the sight during the 2008 Presidential Election. Phone and Skype interviews for CNN shows stemmed from my contributions, as well as serving as an on-air panel member for Roland Martin's "Debate the Debate."

During my years in college and gaining some field experience, I have gained valued knowledge and skills. I know that I have the drive to deliver the news and reality. For potential employers, I know I would a hard-working and great addition for any news station.
