Katharine Sperandio
Hello! My name is Katharine Sperandio
and I am currently working at Brazos
Valley Center for Independent Living
(BVCIL).
My title at BVCIL is Independent
Living Specialist. My area of focus is
advocacy, which means that I help consumers in learning and exercising their rights and I work with them on trying to make changes in the current rules and regulations set by society to make it more livable for them and make it easier for them to become fully independent. Instead of working FOR the consumer, I try to work WITH them. I am also fully dedicated to working with the brand new PATHS program at Texas A&M. The PATHS program is dedicated to helping those with and without disabilities become direct support professionals. I will be working one-on-one with each of the students, getting to know them and helping them get to know the different agencies that benefit those with disabilities around the Bryan/College Station area. I also help with teaching classes such as financing/budgeting, grocery shopping, travel training, and other classes in order to help the consumers build the skills in order to live more independently. I enjoy what I'm doing and I love the fact that every day on the job provides new opportunities for learning!
