Kate is a prominent British barrister (Lincoln House Chambers, Manchester) who became a Crown Court Recorder in 2009, Queen's Counsel in 2012 and is recommended as a 'Leading Silk in Criminal Law'.

She most recently prosecuted Ex-Sunderland footballer Adam Johnson on suspicion of child grooming and sexual activity with a 15 year old.

Called to the bar in 1992, Kate achieved early success as part of the prosecution of Dr Harold Shipman, one of the most prolific serial killers recorded in history.

She was appointed as Counsel to the Daniel Morgan Independent Panel commissioned by the Home Office to address questions relating to police involvement in the unsolved murder of the private investigator and as Expert Legal Adviser to the Gosport Independent Panel to consider historic concerns about the initial care of older people at Gosport War Memorial Hospital and the subsequent investigations into their deaths.
