Katherine Barnes

Katie Barnes is an Assistant Resident Director/First Year Adviser at Miami University (OH), and a member of the Campus Pride Board of Directors. Katie is a first year graduate student in the Student Affairs in Higher Education program at Miami. Within the field of Student Affairs, Katie is most interested in expanding the work done with technology and innovative thinking to incentivise student involvement and participation.

Driven by their passion for helping others, Katie strives to continue her work on LGBTQ Adcocacy both on and off campus. Having presented at the 7th Annual Minnesota OUT! Campus Conference and the 2013 Midwest BLGTA College Conference on experiential theories of organizational sustainability, they can speak to youth involvement in the LGBTQ movement.

A recent graduate from St. Olaf College, Katie holds a B.A. in History, Russian Studies, and American Studies with a concentration in Women and Gender Studies. During their time at St. Olaf, Katie was involved in a number of activities, focused on LGBTQA activism and advocacy. Their work earned them a Voice & Action National Leadership Award from Campus Pride, and Distinguished Senior, St. Olaf's top student leadership award.
