Master of Public Health- Queen's University
Bachelor of Science- University of Alberta
Certificate in Statistical Data Analysis- SAS Institute
My career in research began as a summer student in an environmental chemistry laboratory studying contaminated lakes and soil. A growing interest in health-related research led to a virology research team specializing in cancer-destroying viruses, followed by a cardiovascular pharmacology research team working to protect the human heart from damage.
Although I enjoyed the work of a bench-scientist, I ventured into other realms of research. During my Master of Public Health coursework I had the opportunity to conduct a process evaluation of a resource-tool for poverty-affected individuals in Kingston, Ontario. Qualitative data collection and analysis skills were added to my repertoire. Meanwhile. training and certification from SAS Institute enhanced my statistical analysis abilities.
More recent work has included a focus on Social Determinants of Health, and more specifically their impact on use of cancer screening services.
Research is a quest for truth. Research is finding patterns in a messy mosaic of data. Research is my passion.
