Katherine Cornelius is a graduating student at Laurentian University and plans on completing her teaching degree. With a passion for travel and women's' health advocacy, she plans to combine both interests as a future english as a second language teacher internationally. Future aspirations include getting fluent in languages such as Swahili and Spanish.

With current certifications through Doula Canada as a "Birth and Labour Doula', she dreams to open up her own english learning centre for new mothers who are immigrants to Canada. Recognizing a need for this became very evident when doing her internship through Doula Canada and seeing the language barrier many people face.

Currently working with refugees in Sudbury and helping them through their final trimester of pregnancy, Katherine recognizes the importance of education for those who are new to Canada. Her goals of bridging education with new families gives them the opportunity to grow and make a stronger, more accepting community.

With future qualifications to teach physical education and english, Katherine hopes to take her work beyond the classroom. Growing up in the Greater Toronto region, she recognizes the need for literacy education amongst female immigrants who may have not had the opportunity to education in their home countries.

Through Katherine's experience both in and out of the classroom, she presents a unique outlook on the education system and hopes to connect those who need it most to the education they deserve.
