Katherine Tom

I'm just a big kid. I like the simple pleasures in life - funny shaped clouds, playing with my stuffed animals, eating ice cream and eggos for breakfast. flailing my arms about and calling it dancing, going on adventures and exploring the world, and, above all else, silliness. Silliness makes the world bearable.

I am a believer in science. Science is a part of everything. I studied Food Science in college because it was the intersection of my love for food and my incessant curiosity about how things work. While taking my first food science class, I opened Harold McGee's On Food and Cooking and saw there was a chapter on milk. MILK!! That's when I knew that Food Science was for me.

As an adult, I am concerned with social and societal issues, specifcally involving our healthcare and education systems. I believe in the power of education to improve our world and our most fundamental need - good health. My goals are to work locally and globally to reduce health disparities among the underserved. I hope to change the world some day.
