Kathleen Smith

Therapist and Student in Blacksburg, VA

I am proud to be a doctoral candidate in Human Development, Marriage and Family Therapy at Virginia Tech. I am hoping to advance the profession and university through dissemination science focusing on translational research practices.

Originally, I'm from the Tidewater area and attended Virginia Tech for my undergraduate degree. Later, I went on to complete my master's degree from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC in 2019.

Previously, I practiced as a Licensed Graduate Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) in Silver Spring, Maryland working with couples, families, and teens from many diverse backgrounds. Currently, I hold an unrestricted license in the state of Maryland as an MFT.

I am most passionate about studying and advocating for folks within underserved communities, namely the LGBTQIA+ community that I am a part of and would love to connect if this is a shared area of interest for you.

I am currently interested in working in a setting that supports my goals and is passionate about serving underserved populations to foster resilience against minority stress. If you have a job for me, or would like to collaborate, please contact me at [email protected] to get connected!
