Kathryn Leonard
Kathryn Leonard, a native of Portland, Oregon , graduated from Marylhurst University with a Bachelor’s of Music Degree in Vocal Performance, with a concentration in Vocal Pedagogy. Kathryn is currently completing her Master’s of Arts Degree in Teaching and Music Specialist Endorsement at Pacific University in Eugene.
While a resident of Portland, Kathryn gave solo recitals in venues such as Pittock Mansion, The Old Church and Marylhurst University's Wiegand Recital Hall and performed as a member of the Portland Symphonic Choir. Since moving to Eugene in the fall of 2009, Kathryn has performed numerous solos with the Eugene Vocal Arts Ensemble and the Eugene Concert Choir, earning praise from the Eugene Register-Guard as an “outstanding” soloist. Kathryn has perfomed in recitals as part of the Hult Center's SHOcase series and starred in a lead role in OFAM’s 2010 summer musical The Boys From Syracuse, for which the Register-Guard named her an “excellent” performer.
Kathryn has served on the voice and piano faculty of The John G. Shedd Institute for the Arts in Eugene since 2009. Kathryn designed the first curriculum for The Shedd's "Music Box" program and has served as the lead instructor since 2010. Kathryn also served as the Music Director for the Eugene Concert Choir’s Outreach Program from 2010 to 2011. As director, she lead an ensemble that brought free music education to schools without music programs.
Some accomplishments of Kathryn's students include: soloing at Oregon Ducks games, starring in lead performances in Oregon Festival of American Music and Rose's Children's Theatre productions, placing in the finals of the Oregon State Fair singing competition, and winning 3rd place in the national Hal Leonard Vocal Competition.
