Being the oldest child of three, it has always been my goal to be the most respectable role model to my siblings. Beginning the day I was born I grew up attending a church called Northstar. Growing older each day allowed me to realize that I wanted to leave a positive imprint on my younger brother and sister. It became clear to me that I had someone so close who could help me through my walk with Jesus. Mary Carolyn Norman was not just my great grandmother but she was also my role model. Nana, as she was referred too, lived to the age of 96 and spent every day of her life full of joy and happiness. My desire to be more like Nana grew each day as I admired her for the love she showed people, her love for life and most importantly God.
Mary Carolyn was a strong believer of the Lord and continually expressed her love for the church to our family. All I wanted was to experience what she was feeling and I wanted to know what it was like to live the life of a devout Christian. One Sunday in April 1999, I became a Christian, one of the most exciting times of my life.
My great grandmother not only had a lasting impression on my life, but she also assisted me in making one of the most important decisions of my life. Mary Carolyn helped open so many doors for my future and it all began with her love for life, people and her Savior. Everyone has a different passion or desire and it is so important to thrive in what you believe in. While my Nana was my role model, she also showed me what it was like to be one myself. My siblings Karoline and Kyle have so many memories, trials and tribulations ahead of them and I wish nothing but the best. I have realized through my walk with Christ that life is never easy, people will let you down, you will make mistakes and you will always have someone you look up too. As I grow each day, I continue to hope that my siblings look up to me not only as a role model of how they want to be, but also a best friend, just as Mary Carolyn was to me. I may not be perfect, but I want to leave a lasting impression on them like she has me.
Each day I remember the significant impact she has on so many lives and I continue to strive to be like her. My past with my Nana has allowed me to realize that I want to be not only a positive light on my Karoline and Kyle, but I also hope they can call me their role model, like Mary Carolyn was to me.
